On Thursday, January 14th, violinist Hilary Hahn will be the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. The episode will air at 11:35pm on NBC. Hahn will be one of the first classical guests Conan O'Brien has invited since he took over The Tonight Show last May. "As I've grown up on the road," writes Hahn, "I've spent many post-concert hours watching Conan O'Brien on late-night television. I'm thrilled to perform on his show this week. I can't wait!"
Hahn's newest album, Bach: Violin and Voice will be released on Deutsche Grammophon today, Tuesday, January 12th. Since her breakthrough debut album of solo violin music by Bach in 1997, American violinist Hilary Hahn has been closely associated with the composer and continued to explore his music in performance and recording. She later released a recording of Bach's violin concerti, and her new recording, Bach: Violin and Voice comprises less-exposed music from the cantatas and choral pieces that features violinist and singers in tandem, and has been on Hahn's mind since she first heard some of the repertoire at age four in a performance by her father's choir. Joining her on this recording are baritone Matthias Goerne, soprano Christine Schäfer, conductor Alexander Liebreich and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, with whom Hahn will also collaborate on a series of European concerts featuring the material. Bach: Violin and Voice will feature arias and duets from such Bach classics as the St. Matthew Passion and Mass in B Minor, as well as numerous and diverse cantatas.
Gramophone Magazine’s 2008 Artist of the Year, Hahn is a two-time Grammy Award-winning soloist celebrated for her probing interpretations, technical brilliance, and compelling presence on stage. Turning 30 years old this past November, Hahn has toured extensively for over a decade, and her acclaimed performances and recordings have made her one of the most sought-after artists on the international concert circuit. Hahn appears regularly with the world’s elite orchestras and on the most prestigious recital series in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. In the 2009-10 season, she tours the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, England, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Serbia, and Iceland, and performs as a guest soloist with, among others, the Boston, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Dallas and Nashville symphonies, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. American audiences will have the additional treat of hearing an original concerto by composer Jennifer Higdon, written especially for Hahn. These two musical giants first met at the Curtis Institute, where Hahn was Higdon’s student. The Baltimore Sun raved that the concerto is “tailor-made to the violinist's unflappable technique and musical depth.” Higdon’s concerto is a work only a master could bring to life—specifically, only Hilary Hahn. Hahn will perform this and other works in early 2010 with orchestras across the US; a recording of the concerto, also with the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, will be released in fall 2010.
